It would be great to see the Greek plays performed on stage. It might be hard for a broad audience to understand the context but perhaps this can be solved somehow. There’s so much assumed knowledge of mythology required to really understand the plays. Without reading Homer as well as Edith Hamilton’s great book of mythology, I would have been quite lost.
There are very few American actors today capable of playing Greek tragedy, much as I would like to see it performed. Shakespeare, as well, in this country is a travesty always. But opera is excellent with many very talented and trained young Americans who are just itching for the chance to sing.
